surrender into ceremony
blessings and ceremonies
For centuries, women have been gathering together in blessings and ceremonies to mark these rites of passage and honour these transformations. Depending on your ancestry, this could look different from person to person.
I encourage you to look into your ancestry and peoples, to understand how they blessed and celebrated pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. You may find some rituals that resonate.
Whatever your ancestry, all blessings and ceremonies would have had the following elements — storytelling, cleansing, anointing, nature, bundling, food, and song.
A BLESSING can take place for a mother-to-be, to call forward strength and support from her circle, weaving the bond together through different hands-on experiences (thread ceremony, beading, birth altar, belly painting, massage, flower crown / mandala making etc.), sharing wisdom and nourishment together to welcome in the new you.
A CLOSING CEREMONY would take place in postpartum to honour the journey that you have been through, to let go of the previous version(s) of yourself. Either one-to-one or with your inner circle, there will be storytelling, a bathing ritual, bodywork, wrapping, herbal teas, and nourishment to close.
